hard-disk type
   A number stored in a personal computer's CMOS random access memory area that defines certain hard-disk characteristics, such as the number of read/ write heads and the number of cylinders on the disk. This number is not directly accessible from the operating system. Some PCs require a special configuration program to access the hard-disk type; others permit access via the computer's built-in ROM BIOS setup program.
